Our local chapters carry out our mission of volunteering for communities and advancing local education initiatives.
Here is why an Indiana Retired Teachers Association membership makes sense and cents:
Get Benefits and Discounts
We are part of AMBA (Association Member Benefits Advisors). Our benefits include group, long term care/home health care, first diagnosis cancer, Medicare supplement plans, air and ground emergency transportation plan, identify theft protection, and merchant discounts.
We have special mobile phone plans. Our partners at AT&T and Verizon offer our members special mobile phone plan discounts.
We have medical device programs. For example, Hear In America, provides discounts on hearing aids and free annual screenings and much more.
You get great prices on tickets. Tickets At Work provides discounts on Broadway shows, Las Vegas vacations, Disney World and other Orlando vacation spots, car rentals and motel rooms.
Our Executive Director is our active lobbyist in the General Assembly. You have a voice in the Legislature through our involvement with legislators and testimony on pension legislation.
Our Executive Director attends all Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) Board meetings. Our staff monitors activities and decisions that affect your pension.
Network With Others
We host a Representative Assembly each year. This is our annual business meeting and state award winners are recognized for their efforts.
Local meetings bring members together. In local chapters, we share ideas and hear topical updates, news from IRTA and local programs.
We host workshops. Regional workshops immerse membership and leaders on legislative concerns, retirement benefits and association news.
You receive the Bulletin Board. This quarterly publication features articles from your president and executive director along with topical information on legislation and the association.
You receive our Legislative Bulletin. This is sent out often during the legislative sessions to keep you up to date on what is happening at the Statehouse.
You stay updated on our RetiredTeachers.org website. We constantly post updates on legislative matters, new benefits, retirement planning and assorted other features and information.
You get to meet other retired educators and share friendships through our chapter meetings, special events and travel opportunities.
Pay It Forward With Our Foundation
We help future educators. Our IRT Foundation helps future Indiana teachers benefit from our scholarship programs.
We help retired teachers in need. Our A Hand UP program offers a one-time benefit to retired educators that have run into financial difficulties and need a financial assistance up to $1,000.
We help current teachers. Our Active Teacher Grants provide up to $500 to assist programs in their classrooms.
We offer world-wide travel opportunities. Our partners at Collette, Mayflower, Travel by Rail, Africa Inscribed and Go Next Travel arrange once-in-a-lifetime excursions.
