Jeremy Renner, Actor Who Plays Superhero Hawkeye, Has Life Saved Thanks to Emergency Airlift

January 27, 2023

News spread fast on New Year’s Day that actor Jeremy Renner was hospitalized after a “weather-related accident” near his home. He underwent two surgeries and spent days in stable but critical condition.

Renner has twice been nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award. First for his performance in the 2009 hit The Hurt Locker and the next year for The Town. He is best known for his role as the MCU superhero Hawkeye, including in the highest grossing movie in cinema history Avengers: Endgame. Renner also stars in the Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown.

When not acting, he is known for his love of the outdoors and snowy conditions.

What Happened to Jeremy Renner?

Renner suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” on New Year’s Day 2023. Around 9am, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a “traumatic injury” on a highway near Reno, Nevada.

According to sources, the actor had gotten out of his snowplow to help someone in a stranded car. Reports are that, even though the snowplow has extensive safety features and should not roll over anyone in its path, the plow accidentally ran over one of Renner’s legs and other parts of his body, causing him to lose a lot of blood.

Two things helped Renner receive fast medical attention that could have helped make all the difference. Firstly, a neighbor, who’s also a doctor, was nearby and applied a tourniquet on Renner’s leg until paramedics arrived.

The second is that the paramedics realized road conditions were limited due to the severe weather and time was critical to get Renner to a hospital. They called for an emergency medical airlift, which expedited Renner’s arrival to the hospital and allowed doctors to begin performing the surgeries he desperately needed as quickly as possible. The emergency airlift may well have saved Renner’s life, as the service has done for so many.

Preparation is Key

We never think this kind of sudden accident could befall a celebrated actor on New Year’s Day with a vehicle designed with safety features to prevent this kind of misadventure. But the fact is accidents happen and can happen to any of us. That’s why it’s so important to be prepared for the unexpected and get a Medical Air Services Association (MASA) plan before it's too late.

Medical Air Services Association has been providing life-saving emergency assistance for over thirty years. MASA can protect you from catastrophic financial loss when emergencies arise at home or while traveling by covering your ambulance or airlift, regardless of your age or medical condition. Services are paid in full, with no deductibles, co-pays or dollar limits. MASA provides coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. IRTA and AMBA make getting a MASA plan easy. You can even sign up online. Learn more at www.AMBAmedtransport.com or call 877-290-3170.
